NASA MAAP Terms of Use for Pilot
This document outlines the terms of use for anyone accessing the NASA Multi-Mission Algorithm and Analysis Platform (MAAP). By clicking ‘accept’ or accessing services, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to these terms. Please read them carefully.
- The terms of use may be updated at any time without notice. Continued access of the platform constitutes agreement to abide by any changes.
- While using the MAAP platform, it is possible to access the ESA MAAP Platform. To do so, requires agreeing to the ESA terms of use. These may be different from the NASA terms of use.
- MAAP Products and Services
- Available Data: The data available on the MAAP includes data provided by NASA, MAAP users, and other entities. The data provided in the MAAP are provided “as is”, and users bear all responsibility and liability for their use of data, and for any loss of business or profits, or for any indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising out of any use of, or inability to use, the data, even if NASA was previously advised of the possibility of such damages, or for any other claim by you or any other person. NASA/MAAP makes no representations or warranties of any kind, express or implied, including implied warranties of fitness for a particular purpose or merchantability, or with respect to the accuracy of or the absence or the presence of defects or errors in data, databases of other information. The designations employed in the data do not imply the expression of any opinion whatsoever on the part of NASA/MAAP concerning the legal or development status of any country, territory, city or area or of its authorities, or concerning the delimitation of its frontiers or boundaries.
- Available Tools and Services: Tools and services include algorithms, code, and software, which may have been developed by NASA, MAAP users and other entities. The tools and services provided in the MAAP are provided “as is”, and users bear all responsibility and liability for their use of tools and services, and for any loss of business or profits, or for any indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising out of any use of, or inability to use, the tools and services, even if NASA was previously advised of the possibility of such damages, or for any other claim by you or any other person. - Content Supplied by the user:
- All data supplied or created on the MAAP is subject to the MAAP’s open data policy. (link to MAAP Data Policy Governance Document 6.1 and MAAP Data Access Policy Gove Doc Addendum #2)
- All data uploaded to the MAAP is expected to be open and shared to the MAAP data store.
- All software created on and/or uploaded to the MAAP’s open source policy. (link to open source policy—Governance Document section 6.2)
- Do not upload or share data or software on the MAAP that is not authorize or open data/source code.
- You are NOT authorized to share, process or upload DAR99, SBU, ITAR, or classified information on the MAAP.
- MAAP may review content and may delete or remove content without notice from any of the services in its sole discretion.
- Registered Users agree to (a) only provide accurate and current information about yourself, (b) maintain the security of your passwords and identification, (c) promptly update the email address listed in connection with your account to keep it accurate so that we can contact you, and (d) be fully responsible for all uses of your account. You may not set up an account on behalf of another individual.
- Prohibited Conduct
- Violating laws: You may not use the MAAP to violate any National, State, Local or International laws.
- Solicitation: You may not use the MAAP to solicit payments, goods or services
- Disruption: You may not use the Services in any manner that could disable, overburden, damage, or impair the Services, or interfere with any other party’s use and enjoyment of the Services; including by (a) uploading or otherwise disseminating any virus, adware, spyware, worm or other malicious code, or (b) interfering with or disrupting any network, equipment, or server connected to or used to provide any of the Services, or violating any regulation, policy, or procedure of any network, equipment, or server
- Harming Others
- You may not post or transmit content on or through the MAAP that is harmful, offensive, obscene, abusive, invasive of privacy, defamatory, hateful or otherwise discriminatory, false or misleading, or incites an illegal act;
- You may not intimidate or harass another through use of the MAAP; and, you may not post or transmit any personally identifiable information about persons under 13 years of age on or through the MAAP.
- Impersonation or authorized access
- You may not impersonate another person or entity, or misrepresent your affiliation with a person or entity when using the Services;
- You may not use or attempt to use another’s account or personal information
- You may not attempt to gain unauthorized access to the MAAP, or the computer systems or networks connected to the MAAP, through hacking password mining or any other means.
- Privacy Policy: I acknowledge that all MAAP applications, including both the NASA MAAP platform and the ESA MAAP platform, will have access to my profile information. Information in user profiles complies with NASA’s Web Privacy Policy
By accessing and using this information system, you acknowledge and consent to the following:
You are accessing a U.S. Government information system, which includes: (1) this computer; (2) this computer network; (3) all computers connected to this network including end user systems; (4) all devices and storage media attached to this network or to any computer on this network; and (5) cloud and remote information services. This information system is provided for U.S. Government-authorized use only. You have no reasonable expectation of privacy regarding any communication transmitted through or data stored on this information system. At any time, and for any lawful purpose, the U.S. Government may monitor, intercept, search, and seize any communication or data transiting, stored on, or traveling to or from this information system. You are NOT authorized to process classified information on this information system. Unauthorized or improper use of this system may result in suspension or loss of access privileges, disciplinary action, and civil and/or criminal penalties.
- Copyright Complaints: NASA policy prohibits use of the logo on non-NASA sites.
- Termination:
- By MAAP: MAAP may modify, suspend or terminate the operation of, or access to, all or any portion of the MAAP for any reason. Additionally, your individual access to, and use of, the MAAP may be terminated at any time and for any reason.
- By you: If you wish to terminate this agreement, you may immediately stop accessing or using the MAAP at any time.
- The MAAP should be used for scientific use only. Commercial use of the MAAP is prohibited.
- Scientific Use means internal use by the U.S. Government, or a U.S. Government-initiated, U.S. Government-funded and/or U.S. Government-peer reviewed investigation, established through a NASA Research Announcement (NRA) or similar public notice of opportunity, and performed for the purpose of conducting experiments, evaluation, research, and/or development, including applied research under the NASA Applied Sciences Program. Scientific Use is not intended for the development of commercial products or services and is exclusive of activities sponsored by non-governmental organizations, regardless of for-profit or not-for-profit status.
- Commercial Use means any use not specifically authorized as part of Scientific Use, including but not limited to:
- Use of the MAAP for the business needs of any third person or entity, including without limitation, providing any services to any third parties;
- Use of the MAAP in or to create content for advertising, marketing and promotional materials and services on behalf of a customer, client, employer, employee or other non-governmental organization for purposes other than U.S. Government Purposes;
- Use of the MAAP in or to create content for any materials or services for sale or for which fees or charges are paid or received (e.g., textbook supplemental materials, books, syllabi, course packs) for purposes other than U.S. Government Purposes; and
- Use of the MAAP in or to create content for any books, news publication or journal for purposes other than U.S. Government Purposes.
- Publication of research which utilized the MAAP should properly acknowledge NASA and the MAAP and provide citations in appropriate journals or other established channels of public dissemination as soon as practicable and consistent with good scientific practice. Courtesy copies of upcoming reports or publications by users shall be furnished to NASA for informational purposes only. When possible, users should make reasonable efforts to provide these courtesy copies prior to publication.
